A vibrant new affordable housing community is to be created in the heart of Braehead, Renfrewshire, providing 57 new homes. Its proposed work will begin at the Row Avenue site in March 2026, which will see the provision of two and three-bedroom homes and one and two-bedroom apartments at the height of Scotland’s housing crisis.

The project, which has attracted £2m of government funding to date to bring much-needed social homes to the area, has been designed to accommodate families, couples, sole residents, elderly tenants and key workers alike, being located just over a mile from Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The new energy efficient homes will feature a net zero heating source ensuring new residents benefit from low fuel bills with reduced household carbon omissions.

Planning permission was granted in May 2021 for the affordable housing scheme with Sanctuary Scotland investing in the site in 2022. The 4.5-acre area has since been prepared ready for work and, following final Scottish Government tender approval, the project will start in the Spring of 2026 with completion estimated by Autumn 2027.

Sanctuary Group Managing Director, Asset Strategy and Development, Peter Martin, said: “This is a really exciting project for us. With the Scottish Government having declared a national housing emergency, we’re now ready to deliver 57 new homes to suit people with varying needs and circumstances. The development of this site will support Renfrewshire Council in helping alleviate its growing housing waiting list.

“Sanctuary Scotland’s construction team will oversee the entire project from start to finish, employing local sub-contractors to support with the build. The knock-on effect of supporting the local construction industry is a real bonus. We can’t wait to get started in the Spring.”

The Scottish Government declared a national housing emergency last year, recently pledging to invest up to £4.9bn in affordable homes over the next four years under its Housing Emergency Action Plan.
