Wandsworth Welcomes Hundreds of New Homes in Battersea

Wandsworth Council has secured planning permission for 200 new high-quality homes at Battersea Power Station, delivered in partnership with the site’s development company and supported by the Greater London Authority.

The scheme forms part of the council’s Homes for Wandsworth programme and will be built on an undeveloped brownfield site in Phase 5 of the masterplan, east of the Grade II* listed Power Station.

The homes will be available to local people, including families at social rent levels, and will be operated by Wandsworth Council. Council leader Cllr Robert Morritt called the approval an exciting milestone that will help accelerate delivery of new homes for rent or sale across the borough, while reinforcing the council’s commitment to good growth and housing for local residents.

Designed by Peckham-based Dowen Farmer Architects, the development will include communal gardens, a large south-facing roof garden, and architecture that references the Power Station’s brickwork. The ground floor will provide family-friendly public spaces, a tree-lined street, and room for local businesses, leisure, and hospitality uses, supporting inclusive economic growth near the riverfront.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with completion anticipated in 2029. The council will finance the project through its existing Housing Revenue Account and GLA grant funding. Deputy Mayor Tom Copley described the approval as an important step toward a vibrant new neighbourhood and fairer housing delivery in London.

Battersea Power Station Development Company said the scheme adds momentum to the wider regeneration, with further plans for Electric Boulevard and future phases continuing to move forward.
