How Feng Shui can make working from home a positive experience

Here are a few Feng Shui tips for creating a more supportive home office workspace:

  • Set up your workspace in a specific location such as a quiet room, separate from others. Ideally this should not be your bedroom as electronic and electromagnetic radiation and the mere sight of work material as you retire to bed will deprive you from a good nights sleep.
  • If your choice of room office location is limited, and you don’t have a choice, then a bedroom can be used during this time as long as all devices such as laptop, screen, printer and WiFi modem are unplugged (not only turned off or on standby) during the night. All paperwork and work material should be stowed away in a drawer or cupboard so that the mood in the bedroom still promotes a calming atmosphere.
  • Use a room with a window that can be opened as fresh air provides you with good oxygen levels that support thinking and concentration.
  • Make sure you have good light sources and additionally natural light from the outside to increase well-being.
  • If you position yourself with a view to the nature outside, this can improve your creativity, while facing a wall limits all creativity.
  • At the same time, ensure a view to the door from your seat as this puts you in a control position in Feng Shui terms, suggesting that you can relax and let go as you are always aware of happenings around you.
  • If you sit with your back to a wall, representing a protective mountain in Feng Shui terms, you will feel additional support.
  • A de-cluttered room and desk help to positively channel the QI (life force energy) and reduces distraction from your environment and promotes a more calming atmosphere.
  • An air-purifying plant on the desk or near your devices can help absorb radiation and adds calming energy, however, remove this plant during the night if you use your bedroom for working as plants are not recommended in bedrooms.
  • The best desks for focussing are made of natural wood, representing the Feng Shui element of wood for a grounding and uplifting energy.
  • An air diffuser with natural essential oil such as lemongrass, peppermint, orange or eucalyptus can help cleansing the air and boosting energy levels.

SO Feng Shui Wellness Design

Creates positive well-being environments combining Eastern Feng Shui techniques, Western Interior Design principles & Global Wellness standards

The Second Nature Model combines the three aspects of FENG SHUI, WELLNESS AND DESIGN into an all-encompassing approach to create, improve and maintain positive environments for residents, guests and workers.

The ancient Chinese geomantic science of FENG SHUI is the study and analysis of the interaction between people, buildings and their environment and aims to secure financial and human luck. It is the harmonious balance of space and energy through the most suitable allocation of rooms and their arrangement of furniture and objects. Various FENG SHUI schools are applied based on the three Feng Shui principles of QI, Yin & Yang and the Five elements Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.

The WELLNESS aspect measures and monitors the effects of the built environment and how it impacts human health and well-being through the senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, familiarity, comfort and safety. The measuring of electric and electromagnetic radiation and noise levels completes this all-round approach to a total Wellness concept.

The DESIGN element includes architectural design, interior design and landscaping design.

Prosperous Feng Shui environments require exterior space planning to lay the ground for the ideal positioning of buildings, walkways and water features. Subsequent interior space planning within the buildings is fine-tuned by Interior Design principles addressing the room layout, furniture, accessories, materials, colours, patterns and shapes, lighting, flooring and drapes to support the positive energy flow.
