A New Project in Scotland

Granit has been appointed to work on a Grade C listed building based in Rattray, Aberdeenshire, Scotland (approximately 38 miles north of Aberdeen). The 16th Century building is known as ’The Laundry’ and is part of a cluster of settlements known locally as Rattray House. Local amenities include Rattray Head Lighthouse, Loch of Strathbeg and Royal Navy Air Station Rattray (commissioned in 1944).
Situated in a collection of trees and fields, ‘The Laundry’ is made up of stone, cobbles and coining detail corners on the flank elevations. The roof is of traditional clay tile aesthetic and the building itself is 2 stories high. Currently the site is very run-down, with some windows boarded up and the landscaping noticeably overgrown.
The proposal seeks to integrate a zinc agricultural extension to the rear of the main building which retains as much of the listed building as possible. The new layout has been designed to work with the main building adding an open plan living space, a kitchen, hall, bathroom and bedroom. The result is an old vs. new building proposal, designed to work with its surrounding context and to accommodate couples for a luxury Air BnB getaway home.
The project is currently at Pre-App stage with the local council, which Granit hopes to take through to planning early next year.
