About us

Since formation in 1970, nearly 50 years ago Wakefield-based Thurston Group has continually evolved its operation to the extent that it is now one of the longest-standing and highest performing Modular and Portable building manufacturers in the UK.

We have evolved our business from developing and manufacturing trailers through to mobile welfare, full site cabin complexes and ultimately a modular range that offers an alternative to traditional building.

We can provide a total service, from consultancy, design and manufacture through to gaining planning permission and ensuring building regulation approval.

Covering a wide range of products from Anti-Vandal steel cabins that would be typically seen on a construction site through to modular buildings that incorporate architectural features, so that they look and perform just like a traditional building meeting all the necessary regulations.

Thurston’s technical excellence, exacting manufacturing standards and meticulous quality control procedures are second to none. For your complete peace of mind, we are fully accredited and certificated and all our buildings and products comply with health and safety laws and building regulations. We are rigorously audited by Lloyds Register to a minimum of two visits per year to maintain our BBA certification, that enhances our independent audited ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditations.

Thurston currently have three factories with the recent addition of their newest factory based in Ottringham, Hull, adding to the factory already at Catfoss Airfield, Hull and the head office at Horbury, Wakefield.

Thurston are the market leader in Blast buildings, having provided a range of buildings to customers in Petrochemical and other high risk COMAH territories in the UK, as well as many oversea locations, namely Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Iran and Australia as well as supplying mobile laboratories for export and use in desert environments.
