Simon Ismail, MD of Salboy shares his plans for the next stage of consultation on the Narrowcliff Regeneration site.

Public Feedback Welcome

“It’s great to see that the residents of Newquay are so passionate about their town and we want to make it clear that we are too. The proposed scheme at Narrowcliff will result in a transformational opportunity for a part of Newquay which is in clear need of improvement.

“The feedback we’ve received since hosting the consultation has been extremely valuable and has given us a good insight into the overall feelings, both positive and negative, about the plans. This is the first stage of a process to ensure we deliver a scheme that is beneficial to both Newquay and its residents.

“All of the feedback we receive will be considered as we move forward in the planning process, first to the independent design review panel and then a planning application with Cornwall Council.

“We encourage people to leave their feedback on the design of the building with as much detail as possible to help us pinpoint the exact areas we can improve upon going forward.

“Regarding the scale, there’s no doubt the plans we’ve shared so far are ambitious. We wanted to present something with a large scope to give a feel for what a development at the site could look like. We’re monitoring the feedback on the size of the development closely and will take this into consideration as we move further into the planning process.

Full geological and sunlight surveys have been carried out and will be available to view publicly once we we submit the planning application.

“It’s important to us that everyone’s opinions on the proposed scheme are heard. For those who haven’t already had their say, we urge you to leave your feedback on our website.”

Benefits to Newquay – Affordable Homes and Jobs

“At it stands the proposed development will bring significant economic benefits to the area and will result in a net gain of 132 local jobs, £4.3m gross value added per year and an additional £260,000 in council tax per year. The construction, which will be completed using local labour and suppliers, is expected to create 375 new jobs providing £27m GVA per year.

“The scheme we have proposed is a sustainable and modern seafront development that will be built to the best possible standards using the highest quality materials.

“While meeting the affordable housing policies fully and expected to deliver 56 new affordable homes to Newquay

“This will be paired with plenty of green spaces that will be filled with local plants to improve biodiversity and help the structure blend in with its coastal environment. We know it’s hard to please everyone with the design but we’re happy knowing what we’ve presented is sustainable and will stand the test of time.
