Plans Revealed for 250 Homes at Disused Fuel Depot

A screening opinion request has revealed proposals by Barwood Land for up to 250 homes in Islip, Oxfordshire.
An environmental impact assessment screening request by Pegasus on behalf of Barwood, submitted to Cherwell District Council seeks permission to develop a 13.48-hectare former RAF fuel depot in Bletchingdon Road on the northern edge of the village.
It was used to distribute fuel from 1936-1945 and was taken over by the Esso Petroleum Company in the 1960s. The site closed in 1991 and was decommissioned around 1994. It has remained disused since.
As well as the homes, the plans being drawn up allow for potential pedestrian links including a new footpath along Bletchingdon Road, provision of public open space and a green/blue infrastructure strategy including play spaces for children, potential community orchard and sustainable urban drainage.
Access to the site will be from Bletchingdon Road.
A total of 16 half-buried oil tanks and other infrastructure associated with the previous use of the site as a fuel depot will be removed and, if required, remediation measures will be undertaken.
