Merton Named London's Best Borough for Flexible Working

The Flexible Working index, the system used to conduct the research, assesses a number of metrics, including availability of green space, the average cost of renting a two-bedroom apartment, and overall life satisfaction.

According to the results of the study, Merton offers the ‘best balance’ between going to the office and working from home, which is something that is becoming increasingly important for those living and working in the Capital, and is considered to be a consequence of the altered work conditions experienced during the pandemic.

Research carried out by academics from the University of Southampton and Cardiff University recently found that almost nine out of 10 (88%) employees who have worked from home for an extended period during the past 12 months would like to continue working flexibly to some extent, while almost half (47%) of workers would like to continue working from home permanently moving forward.

Research suggests around 90% of adults want to work flexibly once lockdown restrictions end

For buyers and renters looking to prioritise workplace flexibility, there are many reasons why Merton is an ideal living location. For example, it is one of the safest boroughs in London, with 59.56 crimes per 1,000 people, and is ranked second when it comes to overall safety. It is also regarded as having the best air quality of any borough in the Capital, while King's, an independent school in Wimbledon, is regularly named one of the best educational establishments in the entire country.

Speaking about the benefits of living in Merton, Rupert Dickinson, Foxtons Lettings Manager for Wimbledon, said: “Merton is a great place to live. We have a fantastic network of thriving communities across the borough, which means renters have got everything they need on their doorstep, from small independent shops and restaurants up to large superstores. We also have a fantastic amount of green space, with Wimbledon Common and Morden Hall Park being particularly exceptional.”

Wimbledon Common is an expansive open space totalling 460 hectares (1,100 acres)

If you’re considering a move to Merton, Foxtons currently has a number of superb properties available. This fantastic three-bedroom house, for example, is available to rent for £2,400 pcm.
