Independent property company, Hortons’ Estate Ltd has secured the letting of the UK’s fastest growing burger chain at one of Birmingham city centre’s most prominent retail sites.

Archie’s has agreed a 20-year lease at 8 and 9 Lower Temple Street at the site of the former Caffè Nero next to Grand Central.

The multi million pound burger restaurant will invest £750,000 in the c.2,500 sq ft premises and plans to open the new venue in mid-December 2021.

Archie’s was launched by owners the Raffiq brothers in Manchester in 2010 and already boasts ten locations across the UK, including a flagship 260 seat diner at the Trafford Centre, coupled with a site in Manchester Airport’s new ‘super terminal’ which opened earlier this year.

Famed for its classic retro pink and white branding and signature neon slogans, the family-run chain offers a menu of mega burgers, loaded fries, ‘famous’ milkshakes and a full range of breakfast burgers.

Employing more than 400 staff, Archie’s recently signed a 20 store deal with toy giant Nerf AX and is said to be the fastest growing independent operator in the UK.

Richard Walker of Hortons’ said: “This is one of the most high-profile pitches in Birmingham city centre and we received strong interest when it became available. Archie’s is an exciting and growing brand and I am confident that they will be a great addition to the parade and wider area. We look forward to welcoming Archie’s to the location and seeing its fit out.”

Ross Mackay of Creative Leisure who acted on behalf of Archie’s, said: “This is a prime location to continue Archie’s organic growth in the south and we were delihted to have secured this site ahead of strong competition. It is appreciated that landlords including Hortons’ are now understanding this exciting brand and it is always good to work with like minded partners in a streamlined approach to a transaction.”

Archie’s business has doubled in the last 12 months and sales are expected to achieve in excess of £22 million in 2022. The chain has put operations teams and logistics in place in readiness for the next stages of its growth plan, which includes expansion into international territories.

Hortons’ was represented by Simon Smith of Wright Silverwood.
