Hortons’ Estate Ltd has completed an agreement to build a new 15,000 sq ft freehold unit in Birmingham for family-run removals and storage company, Squab Group.

The independent property company has received planning approval to construct a multi-activity centre on the last remaining plot at Birmingham Great Park, Hollymoor Way in Rubery.

The new development will feature self-storage space and integral offices and will be marketed by Squab at the local small business community, as well as domestic customers.

Hortons’ will be starting on site in the next few weeks and it is anticipated that the building will reach practical completion towards the end of 2021, when Squab will undertake an internal fit out.

The development will further expand Squab’s portfolio of storage locations, which includes existing premises in Evesham, Daventry and Leamington Spa.

It is the second unit to be developed by Hortons’ on behalf of the company, following construction of a 15,000 sq ft facility at Asparagus Way, Vale Park, Evesham in 2019.

Delivery of the new building will complete Hortons’ involvement at Hollymoor Way, where it has developed a complex of multiple units, including an ambulance preparation and maintenance hub on behalf of West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust and a 50,000 sq ft manufacturing facility for Aquapak.

Richard Walker, commercial surveyor, Hortons’ Estate Ltd, said: “We are very pleased to have sold the last remaining plot at Hollymoor Way. We enjoy a good relationship with Squab and understand their requirements having developed a similar building on their behalf only two years ago. Our development of Birmingham Great Park has been highly successful, supporting the regeneration of the local area through investment and employment opportunities.”

Squab Group was established by the Evans family at its location in Leamington Spa more than 15 years ago. Initially offering storage services, the business has expanded to include removals, van hire, document shredding and business centre and conferencing facilities.

Alex Henney, Director for the storage operations at Squab Group, said: “This exciting new development will help drive the growth of local small businesses in the region by offering flexibility through a mix of office and self-storage space. It will expand Squab’s operations to four sites across the Midlands and we believe that the business will continue to grow. We’re looking forward to working closely with Hortons’ to bring the new centre to fruition.”
