Build Warranty® Supports Parliamentary Launch of New Homes Quality Board

Build Warranty® Group attended Parliament, Tuesday, 1st November, for the launch of the New Homes Quality Board (NHQB) a not-for-profit organisation solely funded by house developers’ registration fees which are charged annually and calculated according to developers’ size and company turnover. This new framework came into effect in January 2022, to eventually replace the existing code practice, the Consumer Code for Homebuilders.
Mr Andrew Dyson, CEO of Build Warranty® commented, “we wanted to be in Westminster today and were pleased to personally assure Rt Hon Lucy Frazer MP, the new Minister of State in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities that we at Build Warranty® wholeheartedly support this initiative to protect home buyers by promoting a single national Consumer Code and Housing Ombudsman service.”
It accepted that the previous code wasn’t promoted to prospective new home buyers and, as a result, received a total of only 889 complaints over its eleven years of existence, with 54% of complainants succeeding in part (35%) or count (18%) resulting in awards averaged just 10% of the amount claimed.
More than 100 developers, including many, if not most, of the largest developers responsible for upwards of 60% of all new homes across the country, are formally registered to work with the NHQB.
However, membership in the NHQB is voluntary and provides house developers with a platform to showcase their quality and customer service credentials. Leading warranty providers, like Build Warranty® Group will no longer be responsible to operate consumer codes and Build Warranty® will instead encourage developers to be registered with NHQB.
