Plans have been approved for a 46-hectare solar farm in Brize Norton.

Witney Solar Farm Ltd, part of Ampyr Solar Europe, plans to build the farm along with a battery energy storage system (BESS) on six fields of arable farmland north of Witney Road and south of the A40.

Councillors at West Oxfordshire District Council’s development control committee’s October 20 meeting discussed at length issues around contamination and fire risk but eventually voted by 10 – six to approve it. The 30MW solar farm will operate for 40 years.

The team on the project includes Lanpro on planning, design and safety management, Andrew Moseley Associates on transport and BSG on ecology.
