Description
Above the still waters of Esthwaite and looking out over the surrounding watchful fells lies Ees Wyke Country House. Built in 1742 as a gentleman’s residence of immense charm and character, the property was once the holiday home of Beatrix Potter who was so entranced with the beauty of Sawrey, she made the village her home. Ees Wyke remained a residential property until 1972, when its superb location and wonderfully spacious accommodation made it an ideal guest house. Many of its 9 letting bedrooms have wonderful views across the valley and with views of Esthwaite Water and there is a superb separate one-bedroom apartment for the resident owners, making Ees Wyke Country House a wonderful place to live and work.
Ees Wyke Country house occupies a superb location in the village of Near Sawrey, which is particularly well known for its association with Beatrix Potter who stayed at Ees Wyke as a holiday home, when she edited her first Peter Rabbit book, before moving to Hill Top which is only an easy and short walk away. Only a few miles away is the delightful village of Hawkshead, where William Wordsworth went to school and you mustn’t miss the lovely views of Esthwaite Water along the way. A short ferry crossing only a few miles away
takes you to the other side of Windermere at Bowness Bay in the heart of the Lake District National Park, known the world over for its natural beauty and now a well-deserved World Heritage Site.
