LOCATION
The village of Banwell is within the administrative area of North Somerset Council (NSC). It has a population of approximately 2,180no. residents (2021 Census). It is located on the western edge of the Mendip Hills National Landscape, which offer a range of country pursuits, and in close proximity to Blagdon and Chew Valley Lakes. Banwell has a comprehensive range of facilities and amenities, including (but not limited to): a church, Methodist chapel, pre-school, primary school, 2no. convenience stores, 2no. pubs, bowls club, medical centre and pharmacy, children’s centre, village hall, playing field with basketball court and playground and fish and chip shop. Weston-super-Mare is located approximately 8.5-kilometres (5.3- miles) to the north-west of Banwell. It is a popular tourist resort and has a comprehensive range of ecclesiastical, educational, cultural, leisure/tourism and shopping facilities and amenities. These include (but are not limited to): a hospital, 2no. golf clubs, the Grand Pier, yacht club, 2no. rugby clubs, a number of churches, a number of retail outlets, drinking-establishments, eateries and takeaways. It also boasts an expansive beachfront hosting various events throughout the year.
COMMUNIC ATIONS
Road - Banwell is bisected by the A371 which connects to Westonsuper-Mare (A370) in the north-west and Winscombe (A38) in the south-east. Junction 21 of the M5 motorway is approximately 5.5- kilometres (3.4-miles) to the north-west. Construction of the new Banwell bypass has commenced to the north and is scheduled to open to traffic in early 2027. This will remove traffic congestion from the village and further increase its appeal.
Rail - Weston-super-Mare railway station is approximately 9- kilometres (5.6-miles) to the north-west. It provides mainline services to destinations such as Bristol Temple Meads, Exeter St Davids, Cardiff Central and London Paddington. Alternatively Weston Milton railway station is approximately 7.6-kilometres (4.7-miles) to the north-west and provides local services.
Air - Bristol Airport is approximately 15.1-kilometres (9.4-miles) to the north-east. It has scheduled and chartered flights to a range of national and international destinations.
