Job Description

We are currently working with one of the UK’s fastest growing residential developers who have bold growth plans and as a result they are keen to recruit an experienced Structural Engineer on a full time, permanent basis.

This award winning Developer take pride in what they do best, building beautiful, quality, purpose built one and two bedroom apartments in desirable locations across the UK.

Based out of their West Midlands region in Worcestershire, you will be required to assist with a number of projects at any one time under the direction of the Technical Manager.

The person they appoint will be responsible for the following;

Responsible for providing advice on the most practical, cost effective, build solutions on foundation and superstructure design.

Relationships:

Internal and external contacts at high level including Directors, other Managers and staff within the business, officers of local authorities and senior partners / directors of external consultants.

Good working relationships are essential in the development of close understanding with other departments within the Company, together with the creation of good team morale and high esteem.

High level of tact, understanding and persuasiveness is essential, which has to be blended with professionalism and business acumen.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Group Construction/Commercial Director on all matters for current projects and recommend future strategies.
  • Produce engineering strategies to be considered by the Operations Board of the Company to meet the changing construction requirements.
  • Review desktop studies and ground investigations to provide initial information on all prospective land acquisitions, to enable cost implications to be taken into consideration.
  • Ensure that designs are always practical, cost effective and functional and will fully meet the design criteria for the company, taking into account the changing Building Regulations.
  • Reviewing reports, drawings and calculations prepared by outside consultants.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of legislation, regulations and product development relating to engineering, foundation design and building design including Building Regulations
  • Liaise with relevant professional staff
  • Prepare reports, designs and drawings for foundations and superstructures.
  • Making calculations about loads and stresses
  • Select appropriate construction materials
  • Provide technical advice
  • Obtain Building regulations/NHBC approval
  • Monitor and inspect work undertaken by contractors
  • Administer contracts and Manage projects
  • Inspect properties to check conditions/foundations.
  • Deliver advice to the company on engineering design.
  • Provide detailed information and calculations in support of foundation and engineering details as proposed.
  • Provide detailed information to inform the Companies procurement, Specification and standard details in conjunction with the Group Procurement Manager and Group Technical Manager.
  • Ensure that the highest professional and technical standards are maintained personally and by any responsible staff at all times.
  • Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations at all times.
  • Project a good company image and maintain the highest standards of PR and goodwill in relation to the company at all times.
  • Ensure that if a cheque needs to be raised, it is supported by appropriate and authorised supporting documentation.
  • Carry out duties in an efficient and effective manner and ensure that all Company policies and procedures are adhered to, so as to maintain proper controls over operations.
  • The post holder will have access to confidential and sensitive Company information. The utmost discretion is therefore required and the post holder must comply with the requirements of the Company from time to time with the dealings or other securities of the Company.
  • Initiative is expected in this job and the Engineer will be required to make day to day decisions relating to associated issues. Required to use discretion as to which matters are referred to a higher level for decision.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as necessary to achieve the optimum engineering solution for the Company. Occasional site meetings may also be required.

This position would suit an experienced and qualified Structural Engineer who possesses a good knowledge of relevant regulations, including building and fire regulations relating to multi-storey apartment buildings. Any previous project experience of retirement living, student accommodation, extra care developments or apartment blocks up to 4 or 5 floors is desired.

You will be required to work on a number of projects at any one time and will be required to make day to day decision relating to design, technical and site issues to ensure that construction is unimpeded. Therefore, you must be capable of working within a fast moving and time pressured environment.
