What is an Integrated Security System?

The number of vacant commercial properties on the rise in recent years has resulted in landlords opting for multiple solutions to ensure their premises remain secure, free from vandalism and break-ins.

What exactly is an integrated security system?

The short answer is: combining all aspects of security in a layered approach that leaves no vulnerable points and plays a crucial role in deterring trespassers, preventing theft, and mitigating potential risks.

The six key components of an integrated security system for unoccupied commercial property are as follows:

1.      Video Surveillance: High-quality surveillance cameras strategically placed throughout the property provide round-the-clock monitoring and deter criminal activities. The cameras can be equipped with motion sensors and infrared capabilities to capture clear footage even in low-light conditions.

2.      Intrusion Detection System: An intrusion detection system includes sensors, such as door and window contacts, glass-break detectors, and motion detectors. These sensors are connected to a centralised control panel and trigger alarms when unauthorised access is detected.

3.      Access Control: Access control systems limit entry to authorised personnel only. This can include key card access, biometric scanners, or keypad entry systems. By controlling who can enter the premises, the risk of unauthorised access and potential damage is significantly reduced.

4.      Alarm System: An alarm system provides audible alerts and can be linked to a security company or monitoring centre.  It can detect fire, smoke, or any other unusual activity within the property, enabling swift response and minimising damage.

5.      Remote Monitoring and Notifications: Remote monitoring capabilities allow property owners or security personnel to monitor the property from anywhere, using mobile devices or computers. Real-time notifications can be set up to alert key personnel in case of security breaches or system malfunctions.

6.       Manned Security:  Finally, nothing deters criminals more than the presence of other humans.  Security guards and access control staff all remove the sense that there is an opportunity for trespassers to go undetected.

By integrating these six key components, unoccupied commercial properties can establish a robust security system that deters trespassers, promptly detects any unauthorised access, and enables timely responses to potential security threats, ultimately safeguarding the property and its assets.
