Popular Lakeland hotel The Angel Inn at Bowness-on-Windermere is under new ownership after being sold in a confidential off-market deal.

Colliers International, acting on behalf of owners Geoff and Kay Todd and Liam and Abby Salisbury, has sold the stone-built property to The Inn Collection Group, together with an adjoining house. The price is undisclosed.

The Inn Collection Group now has over a dozen hotels and inns in the Lake District, Yorkshire, Northumberland and County Durham.

Julian Troup, head of Hotels Agency at Colliers International, said: “The buyer appreciated the significant trading opportunity to be gained from combining the owned assets, and was prepared to pay a price that reflected the potential of the overall developed site.

“This was a totally off-market deal which had to be negotiated in a highly confidential fashion and which included the adjoining family house.”

The Angel Inn, which has 13 en suite letting bedrooms and a gatehouse annex, is set on a hillside with superb views of Lake Windermere and the mountains beyond.

The stylish refurbished property, which is a short walk from Bowness-on-Windermere village, features a restaurant with seating for 58, an orangery with seating for 22, two lounges and a bar. There is also parking for around 25 cars.

Julian Troup added: “This renowned and impressive Lakeland inn is located in a truly outstanding trading position at the heart of the Lake District.

“We are seeing strong ‘staycation’ backed trading performances continuing to attract both overseas and domestic buyers, particularly in the Lake District which continues to be Colliers’ most productive area in the UK for sales.

“This disposal brings the number into double figures, of hotel and hospitality transactions already completed in Cumbria during 2020 by Colliers International, and we expect to see continuing keen levels of interest from prospective purchasers.”

Nicola Wood, director at Progression Solicitors based in Kendal, acted for the sellers.

The Angel Inn is a further acquisition by The Inn Collection Group in the Lake District in recent years. The North East based company also acquired the Queens Hotel, Ambleside, and Waterhead Hotel, Coniston through Colliers International.

Sean Donkin, managing director of The Inn Collection Group, said: “We are delighted with our further expansion in the Lake District. The Angel Inn is strategically very well located, and we look forward to enhancing the overall product over the coming months, with a view to presenting a high quality hospitality business offering a mix of accommodation, food and beverage in an outstanding prime Lakeland setting."
