Hillingdon Council has approved the redevelopment of the former Sipson Garden Centre, Sipson Road, West Drayton, into additional facilities for Heathrow Airport.

The proposed development is for a Centre of Excellence for servicing and repair of Airside Support Vehicles, consisting of a service building with seven service bays and one storage bay, an ancillary two-storey office building, with associated hardstanding, parking, a wash bay, plant, solar PVs, landscaping and drainage.

The development, initially deemed inappropriate for the green belt, was approved due to special circumstances. These included the pressing need to support Heathrow Airport, the absence of suitable non-Green Belt sites for the proposed use, and the provision of significant biodiversity enhancements. Planners commented in the report, “These factors weighed in favour of the proposal.”

The architects are BCM on behalf of Lewdown Holdings Ltd.
