ESGmark® are delighted to announce that we have signed the Better Business Act.

We support our business community on their journey towards sustainability and believe that we all have our own individual responsibility to ensure a fairer, more equitable future - but we also believe that more can be done.

The Better Business Act is asking the British Government to change UK law to make sure every single company in the UK - big or small- aligns the interests of their shareholders with those of wider society and the environment. Our objective is to amend Section 172 of the Companies Act in line with these principles.

As the Better Business Act founders say:

“...for the past half-century, business has become separated from the communities it needs to serve. The failure to align the interests of shareholders with those of wider society and the environment has contributed to a set of enormous challenges that threaten peoples’ health, wealth and the natural world.”

By signing these commitments into law it will no longer be a choice to align the long-term interests of people, planet and profit. Workers, customers, communities and the environment will benefit from the positive impact business can deliver, whilst also ensuring those businesses remain profitable.

Julia Fawsley Grant, Communications Director at ESGmark®, said: "As legislation changes, ESGmark® will continue to help our members keep abreast with and add their voice to policy, as well as provide the support they need to turn that policy into actionable business strategy."
