A development partner is being sought for the 16-acre Chelmer Waterside scheme in Central Chelmsford.
The residential-led mixed use scheme, which could deliver up to 1,000 new homes, together with ancillary commercial uses, has been launched by Chelmsford City Council.
Developers are being invited to provide complete and submit their Invitation to Participate forms by 12pm on September 26.
The council says it wants a scheme with placemaking at its core. The completed development will provide 35 per cent affordable housing. Much of the primary infrastructure is in place including the recently completed 50-metre pedestrian and road bridge across the River Chelmer.
Council leader Cllr Stephen Robinson said: “Chelmsford City Council is excited to be bringing forward the most significant development opportunity in a generation.
“Chelmer Waterside is an important site, which will become a new, vibrant residential quarter in Chelmsford which will also provide access to a variety of leisure and commercial waterfront activities.
“We owe it to our residents and all of those who love Chelmsford to create a scheme which will live up to the city’s inspiring and innovative history. We look forward to working with a developer who shares this vision.”
