A Dorset Leading Lady

Our own Sally Mitchell, Agricultural Partner, Auctioneer and Agricultural Surveyor, was featured as one of Dorset’s leading ladies in a recent feature in Dorset Magazine. Here is an extract about her passions and secrets to her success.
Tell us a little about you and your role.
I joined the firm after graduating from Reading University. Based in our Dorchester office, I’m involved in farm sales and developing the professional services side of the business, dealing with all types of agricultural management and property matters, as well as auctioneering at Sedgemoor Market.
What is the secret of your success?
Hailing from a Dorset farming family, I have had a lifelong passion for livestock, agriculture and all aspects of country life. This combined with the determination to make the most of the opportunities that have arisen to work in this sector has led me to a career that revolves around all the things I hold dear.
How do you achieve work/life balance?
I am very much involved in the family farm and ride every morning I can before work. This allows me to keep an eye on what is happening and to follow the progress of the farming year. We have a herd of pedigree Herefords on the farm which we have shown as a family for many years, so this is something I can take part in and enjoy whilst meeting clients.
Who inspires you most, either in work or at home?
Without doubt my parents – my father has an incredible work ethic and we very much share a passion for cattle. He and my mother have always been supportive of everything I have wanted to do with my career and both kindly help to look after my horses and dogs when I’m not around.
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Dorset! Being fortunate enough to have been born and brought up in this stunning county, why would I want to live anywhere else?
